What can I say, but that this telescope is a behemoth! It was designed and built by Hugo Jennings, a local contractor in Jackson who unfortunately passed away from brain cancer. His brother John donated this telescope to the nonprofit that I run, Wyoming Stargazing, several years ago and I’ve been fixing it up and getting it working again. It’s functional, but set up requires an engine lift (optionally included in the purchase) and 4 people. It’s more of a functional piece of astronomical art as opposed to a practical telescope. However, it’s an amazing conversation piece! It is hand crafted with heavy lumber so the total weight is about 1,000 lbs. The tube is assembled from three pieces with metal brackets and lifted on the rocker box with the engine lift. It uses 1″ steel ball bearings for azimuth rotation and it’s incredibly well balanced on its skateboard wheel altitude bearings (I’m not joking; it uses skateboard wheels!). It’s one of a kind.
We’re happy to discuss delivery to somewhere in the Western US.
